We are thrilled to announce the World Première of the new orchestration of Cyril Rootham’s ‘Andromeda’ (specially commissioned for the Charles Kingsley 200 Festival) will be performed on both evenings – Friday 14th June and Saturday 15th June at 7.30pm Lucinda Cox, a British soprano will be performing the part of Andromeda and David Jones a London-based baritone will perform, and possibly fly in his role as Perseus.
Lucinda Cox has worked internationally on a wide range of repertoire and is based in London, having completed undergraduate studies at the University of Oxford, and postgraduate at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland.
David Jones is a London-based baritone working in opera, operetta, song and oratorio. In 2018 he devised, produced and performed Song Cycle 2018, cycling over 1000 miles through the UK on his Brompton folding bike, performing Vaughan Williams’s Songs of Travel in 18 concerts along the way. The project was featured in The Times and raised over £1000 for the work of the charity Live Music Now.
Dan Keen, a London based orchestrator, arranged the edition of Cyril Rootham’s ‘Andromeda’ for a 12-piece ensemble and choir.

9th July, Graham, Peter and I attended the decision day of the Cultural, Community and Activity Grants of Hampshire County Council – Peter had applied for funding in March this year. We were supported by Councillor David Simpson who also spoke on our behalf. The banners were used (photo attached) and helped us in our mission to get some funding from HCC. The decision on our application has been deferred and we have been invited to meet HCC and discuss further. However, the general view was that they are minded to help as much as funds permit.
The Committee has registered The Charles Kingsley Society as the formal name of the body that will run the Charles Kingsley 200 Festival in 2019; and in addition other activities beyond the festival, so that there may be an enduring legacy, centred in Eversley, to celebrate his life and work.
